🏎️ Manual Clutch — Why It Matters
Manual Clutch mode is the single biggest skill differentiator in competitive Moped Drag racing. Standard auto-shift mode handles gear changes automatically, but this introduces slight delays that accumulate into significant time losses over a full drag run. Manual clutch lets you shift at the exact peak of each gear's power band — eliminating those delays entirely.
The technique used by top Moped Drag players is called a clutch dump launch: stage your moped at the start line using the Handbrake (Shift), build revs, then simultaneously release the handbrake and execute your first upshift (E+P) at the optimal moment. This generates maximum traction from the first wheel rotation and can shave hundreds of milliseconds from your 0–100 KPH time.
Manual clutch also helps with Drag Spec (Level 6 Horsepower) mopeds, which have such explosive acceleration that auto-shift sometimes upshifts too early, wasting power. Manual control keeps you in the optimal power band through each gear transition.
🤸 Wheelie & Stoppie Mechanics
In Moped Drag, hold T while at speed to perform a Wheelie (front wheel lift). The same key during braking performs a Stoppie (rear wheel lift). Both require a minimum combination of speed and engine power to trigger.
At stock Horsepower (Level 1), wheelies require approximately 100–120 KPH to initiate. By Horsepower Level 4 (Backfire Kit), the threshold drops to around 80 KPH. At Drag Spec (Level 6), wheelies can be triggered from as low as 60 KPH, making them far more accessible and consistent during races.
First-person view tip: Press V to switch to first-person view before attempting wheelies. The cockpit perspective gives you more intuitive feedback on front wheel lift and makes balancing sustained wheelies significantly easier.
🛑 Handbrake Technique
The Handbrake (Shift key) in Moped Drag instantly locks the rear wheel, causing the moped to skid and decelerate rapidly. Unlike the standard rear brake (S key), which applies gradual braking force, the handbrake is binary — full lock or nothing.
Competitive uses for the handbrake include: staging at the drag strip start line (hold handbrake, build revs, then release for a clutch-dump launch), emergency deceleration after the finish line, and stylistic skids during community drag meets. Brake Power upgrades significantly improve handbrake responsiveness — see the Upgrade Guide for details.
